The regulations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regulate the visitation rights of prisoners and detainees and the mechanism for submitting a visitation request as follows:

First: The rights of the accused’s family to visit

1. General origin: Article (Twelfth) of the Prison and Detention Law stipulates that the executive regulations are what determine the rules for visiting prisoners and detainees and their correspondence.
2. Prevention for the benefit of the investigation: The system approved an exception during the investigation stage; Article (one hundred and nineteenth) of the Code of Criminal Procedure granted the investigator the right to order that the accused not contact other prisoners or detainees, and that no one visit him for a period not exceeding (sixty) days if the interest of the investigation requires it, without prejudice to the accused’s right to contact his agent or lawyer.
3. Visiting in critical cases: According to Article (Thirty-Five) of the Prison Medical Services Regulations, if the condition of a sick inmate reaches the level of seriousness, the prison administration must take the initiative to inform the police in the place where his family resides to notify them of this, and they will be authorized to visit him if they wish to do so.

Second: Mechanism for requesting a visit to a prisoner

 The Ministry of Interior has made available the service of booking appointments to visit relatives of prisoners electronically via the (Absher) platform, and the procedures are carried out according to the following steps and conditions:

Steps:

1. Access the (Absher) electronic system portal.
2. Go to the (Appointments) section.
3. Selection (General Directorate of Prisons).
4. Choose (book an appointment).

Required conditions:

• The user must be registered in the prison system as a visitor to a specific prisoner.
• The appointment must be booked some time before the actual visit date.
• The visitor cannot be prepared if his appointment is on a day other than the day specified for him in the reservation.
