The child protection system is one of the systems that aims to emphasize what Islamic law has brought and its keenness to protect the rights of the child in Islam and provide a healthy environment in which the child grows up under care that guarantees him a decent life. The system also confronts any actions that harm the child or deprive him of his right to enjoy his childhood.

A child is defined according to the Child Protection System as anyone under the age of eighteen.

The child’s right to protection:
The child has the right to live in a safe environment away from risks, violence and abuse. The child protection system affirms the child’s right to alternative care and provides an alternative family environment in which the child without a family lives through foster families or social care institutions.

Child’s right to care:
Child care is the responsibility of parents, and they must do everything they can to provide for all their needs, preserve their rights, and protect them from abuse and neglect. The system also guarantees the child’s right to visit and communicate in the event of parental separation, and the mother has the right to custody of her children after separation.

One of the results of the child protection system is that it obliges the competent authorities to take several measures to ensure child protection, including:

Conducting awareness, guidance and education campaigns on the child protection system and its rights guaranteed by the system.
Health awareness and what is related to child health and nutrition.
Support the school health system.
Ensuring that the child obtains his right to an education appropriate to him.
Protecting children from infectious and serious diseases.

Protecting children from environmental pollution.
Providing ways to protect the child from vehicle accidents, such as providing him with a safe seat designated for him and making sure to wear a seat belt appropriate for his age.
Protecting children living in difficult circumstances, such as children on the streets and victims of wars and disasters.
Rehabilitation of child victims of abuse and violence.

The competent authorities deal with cases of child abuse firmly and strictly, given the child’s inability to defend and protect himself. Therefore, anyone who commits any of the forms of abuse listed in the Personal Status Law shall be punished with the following penalties:

Imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years and a fine not exceeding 100,000 Saudi riyals, or one of these two penalties.
The penalty shall be increased by imprisonment from two to five years and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 500 Saudi riyals in the event of:
Harming people with disabilities.
If the abuse occurred at school, work, a nursing home, or a hospital.
If the harm comes from those responsible for implementing this system.
If the weapon is used to harm.
Multiple forms of abuse at the same time.

The child protection system protects society from the dangers of domestic violence and all forms of abuse and neglect against children. Therefore, one of the results of the child protection system is its keenness to spread awareness and warn against attacks on children’s rights.

The General Administration for Protection from Domestic Violence and Child Protection has provided Child Rights No. 1919 to report cases of abuse and violence.
